LPS Returns to Learn
  • Liberty Public Schools is committed to offering a choice for our families to consider for their child(ren) returning to school on September 8, 2020.  The return to school scenarios were developed using the guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Clay County Public Health Center Recovery Plan, research and networking insights from district partners, and input from students, staff, and families through surveys and focus group discussions.  We hope this information will help guide families in their decision on what learning choice best fits their family.

    Middle School

    Check CHOICE #1:  Face-to-Face Learning

Middle Schools provide a hybrid option for those students who want to return to school.  The following structures will guide the return process:

    • Students attend school with in-person learning two days per week (Wednesday's are virtual learning days for all students)
    • Prioritize additional instructional space to maintain social distancing
      1. Large Group Instructional/Flexible Spaces
      2. Open Classrooms
      3. Library Media Center
    • Teachers and students will be transitioning to the Canvas learning management system to allow students flexibility in moving from face-to-face to virtual classroom instruction as needed
    • Lunch will be offered in classrooms when needed

Check CHOICE #2:  Middle Level Virtual Learning

Middle Schools will provide a full option for virtual learning with all students desiring to learn from home.

    • Students will follow a modified school schedule Monday through Friday
    • Students will be able to transition between virtual and face-to-face at the beginning/end of each quarter
    • Students will be provided virtual teachers from one of the four middle school buildings with a priority to match students to their building teachers as enrollment allows
    • Parents and students will receive technology support as needed
    • Additional instructional materials will be provided as needed to accommodate learning from home

Check Short Term Virtual Learning Transition for Middle School Students

Middle Schools are prepared to transition students to a short term virtual school schedule should the need for students to be quarantined arise.

    • Students will follow a modified school schedule Monday through Friday
    • Parents will be provided the dates of return from quarantine from a school based reentry team (school nurse, admission secretary, and administrator) along with materials and contact information for support

Check Middle School Students with Special Needs

Middle Schools will continue to provide accommodations to students with special needs who select the full virtual learning option or need to transition to short term virtual learning. The Special Education and Special Programs Departments will work with students with an IEP or 504 prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
