Liberty Public Schools is committed to offering a choice for our families to consider for their child(ren) returning to school on September 8, 2020. The return to school scenarios were developed using the guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Clay County Public Health Center Recovery Plan, research and networking insights from district partners, and input from students, staff, and families through surveys and focus group discussions. We hope this information will help guide families in their decision on what learning choice best fits their family.
High School
CHOICE #1: Face-to-Face Learning
High Schools provide a hybrid face-to-face option for those students who want to return to school. The following structures will guide the return process:
- Students attend school with in-person learning two days per week (Wednesday's are virtual learning days for all students)
- Prioritize additional instructional space to maintain social distancing
- Large Group Instructional/Flexible Spaces
- Open Classrooms
- Library Media Center
- Theater Spaces
- Teachers will utilize the Canvas learning management system to allow students flexibility in moving from face-to-face to virtual classroom instruction as needed
- Lunch will be offered in classrooms when needed
- Students in their junior and senior years will have the opportunity to follow a blended attendance schedule with specific courses (to be released in August) to increase the opportunity for experiential learning
CHOICE #2: High School Virtual Learning
High Schools will provide a full option for virtual learning with all students desiring to learn from home. In addition, schools will continue to provide Liberty Virtual or MOCAP courses if a blended schedule is desired.
- Students will follow a “school schedule” Monday through Friday
- Students will be able to transition between virtual and face-to-face at the beginning/end of each semester
- Parents and students will receive technology support as needed
- Students enrolling in virtual learning will remain connected to their home school in Liberty
Short Term Virtual Learning Transition for High School Students
High Schools are prepared to transition students to a short term virtual school schedule should the need for students to be quarantined arise- Students will follow a modified school schedule Monday through Friday
- Parents will be provided the dates of return from quarantine from a school based reentry team (school nurse, admission secretary, and administrator) along with materials and contact information for support
High School Students with Special Needs
High Schools will continue to provide accommodations to students with special needs who select the full virtual learning option or need to transition to short term virtual learning. The Special Education and Special Programs Departments will work with students with an IEP or 504 prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
