Grow Your Own Teachers
Grow Your Own Teachers (GYOT) is a loan forgiveness program for students currently enrolled as seniors in the Liberty Public School District who aspire to be teachers.
Students awarded this GYOT loan forgiveness opportunity receive:
- A $10,000 scholarship ($2,500.00 per academic year) for the cost of college tuition, books, fees, and other expenses.

Job placement in LPS for 3 years post graduation
Applicant Criteria
- Good citizen
- Maintain 2.75 GPA or higher
- Admission to an accredited college/university to become a teacher
- Participate in an interview with the GYOT selection committee
- Major in and achieve certification in one of the following hard to fill areas as defined by LPS: Middle School/Secondary Math, Middle School/Secondary Science, Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Early Childhood Education (B-3)
- First priority given to first generation college students
