Get the Lead Out
Ensuring Safe Drinking Water
Introduction
In 2022, the State of Missouri adopted 160.007 to the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri. This State mandate requires all school districts in Missouri to regularly test all drinking water outlets within their schools to ensure that the lead concentration levels are below the new standard in school districts, which is 5 parts per billion. The State is taking this step to help reduce the risk of lead exposure in schools, since there is no safe level of lead exposure in children.
Please note that the new standard of 5 parts per billion for school districts is lower than and more stringent than the current EPA standard for the general public, which is 15 parts per billion.
Testing and Communication
Testing will occur between March and August 2024. Should any drinking water outlets be found to have in excess of 5 parts per billion, the District will be required to immediately abate the condition and to communicate the result and plan with that school community. For additional information, please review our Sampling and Analysis Plan.
