Student Equity and Access

First established as the Office of Equity at the start of the 2020-2021 School Year (to promote the District's mission of becoming a more diverse, equitable and inclusive school organization), the Department of Student Equity and Access services to ensure that LPS pre-K through 12th grade learners have equitable access to educational opportunities through learning experiences, programs, resources and services provided by the District.

The Department of Student Equity and Access works closely with school administrators, district leaders and stakeholder groups to shape, promote and implement the strategic plan while promoting a culture of inclusion. In collaboration with other departments within the organization, we aim to build an equitable and inclusive culture for all students and families. Specific components of the District's strategic plan that are led by the Department of Student Equity and Access include:

Strategic Plan #13-

Host Parent University Sessions (via on demand content) to build an awareness and understanding of educational opportunities and learning experiences that support the individualized needs and personal interests of students.

Strategic Plan #15-

Design and deliver Building Equity Cadres that are responsive to the unique context and needs of each school site.

Strategic Plan #21-

Embed district-wide structures for identifying problems of practice, and implementing Equity Action Plans/SMARTIE goals across all departments.

Diversity

Full representation of members of the school community as reflected in various dimensions of difference (ex. race, ethnicity, age, gender, socio-economic, ability/disability, language, thinking styles, etc.) that coexist within the organization.

Equity

Full access to the educational opportunities and personalized learning experiences to ensure members of the school community have the specific resources, interventions and support they need to thrive - regardless of demographics.

Inclusion

Full participation of members of the school community to have a seat at the table to contribute a shared voice and unique perspectives as stakeholders from different backgrounds.

Belonging

The actual experiences of members of the school community that promote feelings of being accepted, valued, appreciated and treated fairly.

Building Equity Cadres

The building equity cadres are designed to support the implementation of Belonging goals that are included in school improvement plans. Each building-level team consists of school leaders, certified staff and support staff members.

These teams are working toward creating inclusive learning environments where staff, students and families can experiences a sense of belonging.
