According to a U.S. News report in 2016, more than 5.8 million college students were enrolled in online courses. That number continues to increase. As we prepare students for college readiness, we believe having the option to take online courses is important for students. We are excited to share that Liberty Public Schools will begin to offer semester and year-long online courses in the 2018-2019 school year, while working toward a fully operational online system for the 2020 school year.
Students take online courses for three main reasons: credit recovery, credit requisition, and credit enhancement. Below is a definition for each:
Student did not pass the course and needs to repeat that course or something comparable.
Student is behind in credits.
Student wants to get ahead for graduation or take courses for schedule management.
For the 2018-19 school year, we will be offering a limited number of courses. Space is limited. Students who take a course have the flexibility to complete the course off campus if desired. Students who are interested should speak to their counselor.
