Blue Jays Continue Dominance on the Mat

Blue Jays Continue Dominance on the Mat

The varsity boys wrestling team at Liberty High School made history once again on Saturday, February 28, 2026, capturing their seventh consecutive Class 5 state championship at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Wrestling Championships in Columbia, Missouri.

Competing against the best teams from across the state, the Blue Jays delivered a dominant performance on the biggest stage, showcasing the depth, determination, and championship mindset that have become the standard for Liberty wrestling.

Seven in a  Row for the Boys

With eight state medalists, Liberty’s varsity boys squad once again proved why they are one of the premier programs in Missouri:

  • Rowdy Angst – 2nd Place, 113 lbs.
  • John Cox – 4th Place, 120 lbs.
  • Will Pfeifer – 2nd Place, 126 lbs.
  • Cade Dunn – 3rd Place, 132 lbs.
  • Roman Stewart – 2nd Place, 144 lbs.
  • Ross Davis – 2nd Place, 150 lbs.
  • Donovan Hodges – 5th Place, 175 lbs.
  • Mason Bindel – 4th Place, 285 lbs.

Each medalist played a critical role in securing the team title, earning valuable points throughout the tournament and battling through tough brackets to stand on the podium. The combination of finalists, place-winners, and grit across every weight class powered Liberty to its seventh straight state championship — a remarkable achievement that cements this era as one of sustained excellence.

The boys program is led by Head Coach Dustin Brewer, who has guided the Blue Jays to an unprecedented run of success.

A Historic Day for the Girls Program

The celebration didn’t stop with the boys.

It was also a historic milestone for the Liberty High School girls wrestling program. Three Lady Jays captured individual state championships:

  • Alexis Stinson – State Champion (2-time State Champion)
  • Lilly Breeden – State Champion (3-time State Champion)
  • Sandy Breeden – State Champion (3-time State Champion)

Alexis Stinson’s second state title solidifies her place among the program’s elite competitors, while Lilly and Sandy Breeden each claimed their third career state championships, an extraordinary accomplishment that highlights their consistency, dedication, and dominance on the mat.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Kellen Laws, the girls program continues to rise and establish itself as one of the strongest in the state.

A Championship Standard

From seven consecutive boys team titles to multiple individual state champions on the girls side, February 28, 2026 will be remembered as one of the most successful days in Liberty wrestling history.

Congratulations to all of these student-athletes for bringing home the hardware!
