Clawson Named Next Alexander Doniphan Principal

At the regular Board of Education meeting held Tuesday evening, January 20, 2026, the Board appointed Mr. Chavis Clawson to be the next principal at Alexander Doniphan Elementary.

Mr. Clawson is a familiar face to both Alexander Doniphan Elementary and Liberty Public Schools. He is currently assistant principal at Alexander Doniphan Elementary, a position he has held since 2019. His service to LPS dates back to 2009 when he spent one year as a Special Education Resource Paraprofessional before transitioning to a classroom teacher, both at Warren Hills Elementary. Additionally, he has deep roots to the Liberty community, as he is a product of LPS having graduated from Liberty High School in 2005.

“Having now worked at Alexander Doniphan for the past several years, I am so grateful to work each day with an incredible team of educators who care so much about kids, and with students and families who bring so much joy and pride to this school," Clawson said. "I am excited to continue the work we’ve started together and to keep growing a school community where growth is celebrated and everyone feels valued and supported.”

Mr. Clawson received his Bachelor's degree from Missouri State University, and both his Master's and Education Specialist degrees from Northwest Missouri State University.

"Mr. Clawson’s deep understanding of Alexander Doniphan Elementary, combined with his commitment to high-quality instruction and student-centered leadership, makes him an excellent choice to serve as principal," said LPS Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Learning Dr. Julie Moore. "His steady leadership, strong relationships, and dedication to our learners will ensure a seamless transition and continued success for the school."

Mr. Clawson will succeed current Alexander Doniphan Elementary Principal, Ms. Beth Cunningham, who announced earlier this school year her intent to retire at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year. Mr. Clawson will begin in his new role July 1, 2026.
