LHS Freshman Wins State Tennis Title

LHS Freshman Wins State Tennis Title

Liberty High School freshman Andrew Beltran captured the individual boys Class 3 singles state championship at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Tennis Championships held Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri.

With the victory, Beltran became just the second boys tennis player in Liberty High School history to win an individual state title.

Beltran finished his outstanding freshman season with a 28-1 overall record, with his only loss coming against the Kansas Class 6A state champion. He was also the only freshman competing in the singles draw at the state tournament and dominated the competition throughout the weekend, never losing more than two games in any set during the entire tournament.

To add to his state championship, earlier this season Beltran won the prestigious Art Loepp Singles Tournament and placed second at the Kansas City Invitational, one of the region’s premier tournaments featuring the top 16 schools from Kansas and Missouri.

Off the court, Beltran also excelled academically, maintaining a 4.0 GPA during his freshman year.

In addition to Beltran's historic performance, Blue Jay Sophomore Logan Huyser had a strong showing, as he turned in a 5th place finish in the same bracket. Beltran, Huyser, and the rest of their Blue Jay teammates will now turn their attention to the team state championships, which take place Friday, May 22, 2026, back in Springfield, Missouri. The Jays will face John Burroughs in the semifinals at 9 a.m., with the championship to be decided later that afternoon. Best of luck to the Blue Jays as they go for another title!
