LPS Names New Director of Human Resources for Certificated Staff

On Tuesday morning, April 14, 2026, the Liberty Public Schools Board of Education appointed Dr. Greg Mees to be the new Director of Human Resources for Certificated Staff.

Dr. Mees currently serves as principal of Discovery Middle School, a position he has held since 2017. He has been a member of the LPS leadership team since 2008, when he began serving as an assistant principal at Liberty High School.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mees to our human resources leadership team," said LPS Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. Sarah Marriott. "He has built strong relationships not only within LPS but also throughout the Liberty community, which will help ensure a seamless transition."

Dr. Mees earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, his master’s degree from William Woods University, and his educational specialist and doctoral degrees from the University of Missouri–Columbia.

"I am excited to serve LPS in this new role," said Dr. Mees. "I love this school district and community, and while I will certainly miss the students and staff at Discovery Middle School, I look forward to this new chapter and the opportunity to support our district in a different way."

Dr. Mees will replace Dr. Leah Copeland, who announced earlier this semester that she has accepted a leadership position with the Lee’s Summit School District. He will begin his new role July 1, 2026.
