It was an exciting morning on Thursday, May 6, 2021, when it was announced that Liberty North High School Junior Addison Beagle had been selected as the 2020-2021 Gatorade Missouri Volleyball Player of the Year.
Beagle becomes the first athlete in the history of Liberty North High School to receive this distintion, and the latest in a series of accolades for the LNHS Volleyball Program. Last fall, the Eagle Volleyball Team steamrolled their way to an undefeated state championship.
"Addison has made a tremendous impact on our program from the time she stepped on the court as a freshman," said LNHS Head Volleyball Coach Katie Dowden. "A natural leader, she's our "Patrick Mahomes" as the setter and QB of our offense. Her leadership, energy, and welcoming presence has been beyond influential, and one of the major roots of our growing success as a program".
The Gatorade Athlete of the Year program is now part of a 30+ year legacy that includes past winners such as April Ross, Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Karl-Anthony Towns, Derek Jeter, and many other sports icons. The Gatorade Player of the Year program recognizes the nation's most elite high school student-athletes not only for outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.
On the court, Beagle has already amassed impressive statistics, and with one more year remaining in her high school career, the best may be yet to come.
"As a Junior, she's already amassed over 2,000 career assists," Dowden said. "And to go with that, she has been named All-State, 1st Team All-Conference, and 1st Team All-District honors this past season and led our team to the first-ever female sports team state title in school history."
And now she can add Gatorade Missouri Volleyball Player of the Year to her growing list of achievements.
