LPS has been receiving regular updates from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and most recently the U.S. Department of Education, with regard to annual state testing scheduled for later this spring. Currently, DESE is planning to continue with state-wide assessments, which includes in the plan to have all students grades 3-8 take the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) exams on-site this spring. This would include all students attending school in a virtual setting state-wide.
Please know that we are committed to supporting you and your family in making the best decision you are most comfortable with. Thus, a brief survey has been developed to gauge the level of willingness of our virtual families to have their student(s) participate in on-site MAP testing. To access this survey, click here.
We are currently preparing a plan to have students take the MAP exam on-site at their respective home schools. Each building will communicate their MAP testing schedule as it is developed with the parents/guardians of the students in their building. Appropriate physical distancing measures will be in place, and your child will be required to wear a mask during the exams.
Finally, please know that these assessments are designed to measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the Missouri Learning Standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. DESE has indicated that time spent on spring assessments will be reduced up to 25% by removing certain field test items from the exams.
Again, thank you for your continued support, and allowing for us to gauge your level of interest regarding state testing.
