Important Inclement Weather Information to Know
We wanted to take a moment to share a few important details with you in the event we would need to either cancel school, dismiss early, or open late, due to inclement weather.
Communication Outlets Used: If a decision is made by administration to cancel school, dismiss early, or open late, the following communication tools will be used to inform families: Automated Phone Call, Email, LPS Mobile App, LPS Website, LPS Facebook and Twitter Pages, Local Media Outlets, and KLPS-TV Channel 18. It is our goal to be able to communicate this information to parents by 5:45 a.m. at the latest, if not the evening prior.
Late Start Option to Take Effect in 2019-2020: Beginning this school year, LPS will include a Two Hour Late Start option when making decisions around inclement weather. This option would be used when conditions are expected to improve as the morning moves along, which could include road conditions and/or temperatures. On late start days, school dismissal times would remain the same.
In addition, as has been the case in previous years, a one-hour or two-hour early dismissal option is also available in the event of rapidly deteriorating conditions.
Before/After School Care: Our before/after school care program (Kid's Zone) will be open to families enrolled in the program and available on days that school is not in session due to inclement weather conditions. On inclement weather days, the program will be in service at Shoal Creek Elementary for all students enrolled. Families must be signed up for the program to be eligible for this service.
Make-up Days: In the event that days are missed due to inclement weather, the dates below have been identified as make-up days on the 2019-2020 academic calendar:
*1st day missed will be made up on February 17, 2020
*2nd day missed will be made up on April 10, 2020
*3rd day missed will be made up on May 21, 2020
*4th day missed will be made up on May 22, 2020
In the event of inclement weather days beyond the four listed above, the district will provide virtual learning opportunities for students when school is not in session. This plan is being finalized by the LPS Academic Services Department, with more information provided later this semester. This plan also ensures that the latest LPS will be in session for the 2019-2020 school year would be Friday, May 22, 2020. Please know that decisions are made with the safety of our students, staff, and families as our top priority.
These decisions can sometimes be challenging, and we appreciate your patience and for partnering with us in advance!
