The Liberty North High School Boys Cross Country Team traveled to Columbia, Missouri, to compete in the MSHSAA Class 5 State Championships on Friday, November 4, 2022. When the dust had settled, the Eagles had gathered enough team points to claim the Missouri Class 5 Team State Championship! Adding to the memorable day of action, LNHS also claimed the individual state championship, as junior Sage Wilde dominated the field of runners. He led from the opening gun to the finishing tape, and finished with the winning time of 15:05.
Following a 3rd place finish for the Eagle boys in 2021, they seemed poised for at least a runner-up finish in 2022. The win was secured by a huge push in the final kilometer of the race. Other contributors to the state championship team, including their respective finishes at the state meet, included: Senior Grayson Tapp (11th), Junior Collin Kleinhen (22nd), Senior Jorge Perez (27th) and Junior Kaden Kleinhen (36th). Sean Forquer and Asher Curp also ran in the highly-competitive race. Complete results from the state championship meet can be found by clicking here.
It was a memorable and history-making fall season for both the boys and girls cross country teams at Liberty High School and Liberty North High School. For the first time in Liberty Public Schools history, all four teams (LHS boys, LHS girls, LNHS boys and LNHS girls) qualified for the state cross country meet. This was just more validation that Liberty is one of the top districts for cross country in the metro, state and region.
Liberty Public Schools plans to publicly recognize Head Coach David Chatlos and his team at the Tuesday, December 20, 2022, Board of Education meeting.
