Angela Benner is 2023-2024 LPS Teacher of the Year

What began as the traditional spring "All-School Photo" being taken on the school playground Thursday afternoon, April 18, 2023, quickly turned into the surprise announcement of the 2023-2024 Liberty Public Schools Teacher of the Year. This year's honor goes to Shoal Creek Elementary 4th Grade Teacher Angela Benner.

Ms. Benner is a longtime elementary teacher in LPS, spending the past five years teaching 4th grade at Shoal Creek. Previously, she was Spanish teacher from 2005-2009, and then a Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 5th grade teacher from 2009 - 2018 at Lewis and Clark Elementary.

"Angela is a ball of energy and works tirelessly to create meaningful learning experiences for her students," said Shoal Creek Elementary Principal Christy Boman. "What I appreciate most about Angela is her ability to connect with every child and develop their unique strengths. Not only do kids thrive academically under her instruction, but she builds each child up so much that their confidence soars."

This is the 19th year that Liberty Public Schools has participated in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The intention of this program is to highlight and recognize the amazing teaching and learning taking place throughout LPS.

"Ms. Benner joins an amazing list of past recipients that have represented our district in this teacher of the year journey," said LPS Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Tucker. "The stories that we hear from both students and parents provide evidence of the quality work that she does in the classroom on behalf of her students every day. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition while also thanking her for her dedication to the students and families of LPS."

Ms. Benner will now advance to compete in the Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year process, which will be announced later this summer.
